On one fall day I woke up and started to get ready for school. It was a normal day like any other. My mom dropped me off at school and left, not noticing that I started walking away towards my grandpa´s library.

REFLECTION #1: Math--Unit 8 Math Test (with Open Response)
What did you learn from this assignment? I learned how to borrow from a whole, which was a surprise to me on how to make a fraction get bigger for me to be able to be able to subtract. Another cool thing I learned was how to multiply and divide which also was a surprise to me because I have been puzzled for a couple of years on how to do this. In unit 8 I learned how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and mixed numbers. I also had to apply the skill of renaming and reducing fractions. Part A was summative because we have learned this and had opportunities to show our learning before the test. Part B is formative because we are still learning these skills. The open response problem required me to think critically and explain my thinking. The problem asked me to apply the skills in a multi-step problem. I also had to solve the problem in more than one way. The main focus of the open response is explaining and showing my work. What are you proud of on this assignment? I am proud that I did well on everything that had to with fractions, and that means that I am good at fractions by now. I am also proud that at least I got a grade on the open response instead of a zero Reflecting back on your work, what could you improve? I could improve on giving better explanations, because most of my tests I rapidly write explanations, and I think it is not worth that many points. One thing I also should improve is in paying more attention on the reading response, because sometimes I don’t read the problem properly and then I do it wrong or think it is too hard and think I can’t do it. My goal for the remainder of the year is to ... My goal is to work a little bit harder on my writing assignments, so that when I need to explain something on the test I give a better explanation. To improve my reading responses I could read the test slowly, then think on the problem, then answer it slowly. REFLECTION #2: Science--Invention Convention What did you learn from this assignment? The invention project was a month long project that started with an idea to solve a problem. During the process I thought of a solution, designed the invention, tested the invention, documented the process, and finally presented to a panel of judges. My invention had to fit within the theme of “Reduce, Reuse, or Recycle”. What are you proud of on this assignment? I am proud that the judges were impressed with my invention, which I was surprised, because my invention was a last minute invention. I was also proud that my board was organized, clear, nice, and neat, which I saw that many people’s wasn’t organized so I think I got a great grade on board organization. Reflecting back on your work, what could you improve? I think I could improve on the building process of my invention, meet my due dates, make more time for building my invention. One more thing I could improve on my invention convention is that I could’ve had a planned speech for me not to look on my board. My goal for the remainder of the year is to ... My goal is that on the following years be more organized towards due dates. Another goal I have is to type a speech and memorise for me not to look on my board. REFLECTION #3: Literature Circle--Book Quilt What did you learn from this assignment? After I participated in Literature Circles I created a book quilt. I had to identify the theme of the book and support it with evidence from the book. I also had to come up with an illustration and symbols that represented the theme of the book. This activity taught me about an author’s purpose for writing and how to support my ideas with evidence. What are you proud of on this assignment? I am proud that I had a lot to write, because that means I would probably going to get a good grade. I am also proud that I met my due dates, because I don’t like giving in late work. Reflecting back on your work, what could you improve? I could’ve read more carefully I would’ve known exactly what to do. I also could’ve given more examples to support my theme. My goal for the remainder of the year is to ... My goal is to pay more attention by reading carefully, then my work would be complete. One more goal I have is to practice more me skills and strategies in grammar. REFLECTION #4: Unit 4 Reading Street Test What did you learn from this assignment? The unit reading test is taken after we complete our reading unit. This unit we learned the following reading strategies: questioning, predicting, generalizing, drawing conclusions, visualizing, and using graphic sources. We also learned a lot of grammar in this unit. In this test we had to read a passage and answer questions about the reading. We had to apply the reading strategies to demonstrate our understanding. What are you proud of on this assignment? I am proud that I met my due date, because I would’ve lost point for giving in late work. I am also proud that I could do it quickly and get a good grade. Reflecting back on your work, what could you improve? I could’ve paid more attention to my test, and done better. One other thing I could’ve improved is doing it slowly, and paying more attention, to get a better grade My goal for the remainder of the year is to … My goal for the remainder of the year is to pay more attention, for me not to get a low grade. One more goal is that I want to get 100% on a Unit 4 Reading Street Test. |
